As a California native, Spanish has always been part of my vocabulary. Living, studying and exploring around the Americas over the decades made it a welcome necessity.
I began translating informally for friends, NGOs and online publications 25 years ago, resulting in my first real gig: a full-time, in-house position at a fast-paced newspaper in Havana. I scaled a steep learning curve thanks to the mentoring and instant feedback of my generous and diligent editor and skillful teammates.
Once back in the United States, I completed a Spanish to English translation certificate program at New York University, specializing in the fields of medicine and international relations. These fields come naturally to me, as I have a Bachelors in Biology & Environmental Studies (University of California) and a Masters in Legislative & Western Hemisphere Affairs (George Washington University).
Later I attained certification as a Spanish into English translator from the American Translators Association (view certificate here). This certification test has a pass rate of about 12%.
For the past 17 years, I have been providing an array of language services to direct clients and high-end agencies. I would be happy to welcome you to my calendar. For further details, please visit me on LinkedIn, Proz.com or send me a note.
